Miami Marlins to make Jose Reyes cut his dreadlocks, is this fair?

Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Miami Marlins President David Samson is enforcing a clubhouse policy about hair towards newly signed Marlins shortstop Jose Reyes.

Jose Reyes will have to cut his dreadlocks. In return for his hair shortage, he�ll receive a $106 million contract.

The Marlins also enforced their policy of no shoulder-length hair towards shortstop Hanley Ramirez in the spring of 2009. Apparently, Reyes isn�t happy about having to part with his beloved dreadlocks, but those are the rules.

�The answer is, there�ll be team rules,� David Samson said. �Everyone follows the team rules, whatever they are.�

I�m all for personal grooming and there�s nothing wrong with the concept of keeping a consistent appearance for the sake of a team concept, but this might be taking things a little too far. If the hair looks neat and isn�t distracting anyone else, then what�s the problem. After all, long hair has been quite beneficial for guys like Troy Polamalu and Clay Matthews.

On the flip side, if the Sentinel offered me $106 million to shave my head bald, I�d do without a second thought. Just saying.
