ESPN should keep Hank Williams Jr. on Monday Night Football

ESPN should keep Hank Williams Jr. on Monday Night Football Posted: 04 Oct 2011 09:15 AM PDT Hank Williams Jr. at Full Sail University in Orlando, Fla. Thursday, July 14, 2011. (Gary W. Green/Staff Photographer) Hank Williams Jr. at Full Sail University in Orlando, Fla. Thursday, July 14, 2011. (Gary W. Green/Staff Photographer) Hank Williams Jr. revealed his ignorance on Fox news recently when he compared President Barack Obama to Hitler. He showed a lack of reasoning when he called Obama and Vice President Joe Biden the enemy. And above all else, Hank Williams showed his inept views of tolerance when he criticized a friendly game of golf between Obama and Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner. Because why should people of opposing views attempt to get along? Thank goodness Williams is in entertainment and not politics. So the Monday Night Football guy is a bonehead? Also in breaking news, Kim Kardashian wasnt a virgin before she married Kris Humphries. I respect ESPNs decision to drop Hank Williams Jrs song from the MNF broadcast. ESPN has been consistent in its approach to its talent use of the word Hitler. But in the broader scope of things, I dont think anyone is looking to the Are You Ready For some Football guy for moral direction. Perhaps, the better point to focus on is why Fox News gave a platform to Williams, who once sang a popular country song titled If The South Woulda Won, to speak on politics. In politics, sports and in life, things generally work better when theres a high level of tolerance and understanding. Surely those concepts have been lost on Hank Williams Jr. Let me be clear on this, ESPN doesnt owe Williams anything. And if they decide to boot him for good, I wont cry any tears for him. But one thing maturity has taught me is that hate is best cured with love and kindness. This could be a teachable moment for Williams. If ESPN gives him another chance, perhaps, Williams could learn something about a character trait he clearly doesnt possess right now tolerance.
